Monochrome - In Colour!

Knot

Both of the photos in this post are effectively monochromatic even though they are colour images; one consists of shades of brown and the other, shades of green. They rely for their success on the patterns and textures of the subject and especially on the lighting.  In the image above the light comes form the side and in the image below the subject is lit from behind.  The images rely on play of light on the texture of the subject which creates the contrast between different shades of their main colour.

Light and shade - that is the essence of photography.  The subject is purely secondary.  If the lighting is right then any subject can make a good photograph.  Perhaps I am stretching things a little here, but not much - honestly!
